Volume 18 Issue 1 Spring 2006

In January 2006, Canadians went to the polls and elected a new government, but appeared comfortable with maintaining a minority parliament.  In our last issue of the Churchilliad, I commented that our Society is at the forefront of education and promotion of parliamentary democracy in Canada. This issue continues that tradition with a feature article minority government by our own Professor Peter Russell, who is one of the nation’s leading authorities on Canadian parliamentary convention.  In another article, former annual dinner speaker John Plumpton comments on the historic position of Canada as the Atlantic linchpin between the United States and Britain.  With our new federal government pledging to bring renewed relevance to Canada’s foreign policy, John’s article is particularly timely.  Our fall dinner was a resounding success and was, for the first time, televised on Rogers cable and CPAC.  Our speakers made headlines at home and abroad and the re-broadcast of our dinner has allowed more Canadians to learn about our Society and its mission.
