The Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy non-partisan, charitable organization that did not take a position on the Ontario referendum question.  Our mandate was to provide information and links to commentary to help voters make an informed decision.

Which electoral system should Ontario use to elect members to the provincial legislature? 

  • The existing electoral system: First-Past-the-Post (FPTP)
    Total votes: 2,702,324
    Percentage of votes 63.1%
    Districts with 50% + 1 = 102
     
  • The alternative electoral system proposed by the Citizens’ Assembly:
    Mixed Member Proportional (MMP)

    Total votes: 1,577,245
    Percentage of votes 36.9%
    Districts with 50% + 1 = 5
