Sir Martin Gilbert
"Churchill & The Middle East"

Sir Martin Gilbert is one of the world's most outstanding historians. He is best known as the official biographer of Sir Winston Churchill.

Sir Martin's output of work to date includes seventy-two books and innumerable articles. He is the author of eight books on the Holocaust and several definitive works on other aspects of twentieth century history. He is also in great demand as a speaker around the world.

Born in London in 1936, Gilbert went to school at Highgate and then read modern History at Magdalen College at Oxford University. He is an Honourary Fellow of Merton College, Oxford, where he taught and did research for many years.

He was knighted in 1995 "for services to British History and international relations". In 1999 he was awarded a Doctorate of Literature by Oxford University, just one of many academic awards he has received in recent years.

The Honourable Lloyd Axworthy
Recipient of the Award for Excellence in the Cause of Parliamentary Democracy

Lloyd Axworthy is the Director of the Liu Centre for the Study of Global Issues at the University of British Columbia.

Best known as Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Axworthy was first elected to Parliament in 1979 and also served as Minister of Employment and Immigration, Minister of Transport, Minister of Human Resources Development and Minister of Western Economic Diversification.
