Twenty-Fifth Annual Churchill Society Dinner

Silver Anniversary

Message for the Right Honourable Kim Campbell

November 17, 2008

Dear Friends and Fellow Churchillians:

In an era when the institutions of Canada's parliamentary democracy need to be strengthened, it is exciting to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a charitable event devoted to that vital cause.

By facilitating education and debate about democracy - and honouring those who demonstrate excellence in these pursuits - the Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy has itself become an institution, one that is worthy of the great man after whom it is named.

I regret not being able to join you this evening, and want to congratulate my colleague, the Right Honourable Kim Campbell, on her selection as this year's honouree. May she enjoy both the toasting - and the roasting - as much as I did in 2004.

And may each of you enjoy an evening with so many things Sir Winston loved so much: a sense of occasion, a sense of history, a sense of humour... and a drink or two to sharpen those senses!

Maureen joins me in extending best wishes to the Churchill Society as you embark on another quarter century of honouring the leaders of the past, and inspiring those of the future.

Yours sincerely,

Rt. Hon. Joe Clark
